Abortion is a Human Wrong
Dear Editor,
It is shocking that the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights' recently called on the Irish government to introduce abortion legislation. This is a callous betrayal of the human rights of the most vulnerable section of European society, the unborn child.

Dutch abortion figures ‘understated’
Dear Editor,
LOUISE CAFFREY (Letters, December 29) incorrectly stated that the Netherlands has one of the lowest abortion rates in the EU. According to 2005 figures, the Netherlands has an abortion rate of 15.29% of live births. This is almost twice the reported abortion rate of Irish women. >>>read more

Abortion and Human Rights
In your report "Judges urged to take off 'Catholic Glasses'" (Irish Independent, November 18) the lawyer responsible for overturning Colombia's ban on abortion, Monica Roa, was described as a human rights lawyer. To describe someone responsible for undermining the right to life of the most defenceless section of society as a human rights lawyer appals me. Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person."re Colombia
